Partner and Birth Doula Support

Your partner and your doula are a team
"If I have a supportive partner, do I still need a doula?" It's a fair question. Your partner knows YOU. Your doula brings a different kind of support: familiarity with birth, comfort measures and ways to help you find your voice when there's a lot happening. Those roles can work beautifully together. A doula doesn't take your partner's place. We help make room for them and work with them as a team to support you!
Practice before the big day
At Asher Birth & Body, prenatal visits are time to build trust, talk about birth preferences and learn ways to support you through labor. Bring your partner's questions, too.
What helps you feel calm? Do you like touch when you're uncomfortable, or do you want a little space? What kind of encouragement feels good, and what would drive you bananas? Talking about those things ahead of time gives your support team a place to start. What are your goals and how can your partner help voice those when birth gets intense.
Support doesn't have to look one way
A partner might offer a hand to squeeze, help you settle into a comfortable position, remind you of a breathing cue or sit quietly beside you. Your doula can suggest comfort measures and help your partner try them with your permission. And if something stops feeling helpful, we adjust. There is no award for doing one technique for the whole labor.
Room to be a person, too
Birth can bring big feelings for a partner. Having another support person means they don't have to know every answer or invent the next idea on the spot. They can ask questions and stay connected to you. Your doula offers non-medical support. Your medical team handles clinical care, and you remain the decision-maker. We can help you gather information and communicate your preferences; we don't make choices for you.
If you're building your birth team, bring your partner to the conversation. Our connection consult is a place to talk about the support you both want and explore a doula match. You don't have to do this alone.
